INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Student Government Association has imposed “tougher punitive measures” to its elections code this year, hoping to avoid bellicose campaigning tactics that brought into question candidates’ behavior and to properly address violations of the Student Conduct Board.

Student Body President Robert Lyons said in a press release Monday the elections code now takes into account the use of posters, videos and social media and clarifies the election process, including responsibility, duration, eligibility and voting.

Candidacy will be terminated should a candidate violate the elections code or knowingly associate with someone who violates the elections code, with the SCB deciding further punishment.

Suggestions and edits to the newly revised standards and procedures of the elections code were voted on unanimously by members of the SGA via a private Facebook page.
