FlipSide Face-Jeremy Huffman
April 7, 2009
Jeremy Huffman, director of campus services, has been in the position for almost a year. Before he was employed at Simpson, however, Huffman’s life was anything but ordinary.
Huffman worked as an army officer for four years after he earned his undergraduate degree. He then became a plant manager for a manufacturing facility. He was called back to active duty as a reservist and upon completing that tour, was honorably discharged and started working for Simpson.
Huffman wanted to work at Simpson for several reasons.
“I believe that Simpson can offer a truly exceptional college experience,” Huffman said. “This is largely due to the faculty and staff that work to provide the best education and quality of life possible for the students. I saw that commitment to excellence in my interview process and wanted to be a part of it.”
Huffman has many different responsibilities with this kind of position and has no problems completing them.
“The most important part of my job is to always strive to not only meet, but exceed the expectations of Simpson students, faculty and staff with our work performance,” Huffman said.
Some students have been impressed with how campus has looked recently and see many improvements to campus facilities and housing.
“Over the past year, I’ve noticed that when you call physical plant with a problem they usually fix it very quickly,” junior Taylor Browning said. “I’m glad that I can rely on these people to get things done when they need to be and not put them off, like what has happened in the past.”
As for his favorite part of his job, Huffman had many aspects he liked, leaving him with trouble deciding on just one.
“I know that, while often our work takes place behind the scenes, it is also critical to maintain and enhance the Simpson experience for anyone who comes to our campus,” Huffman said. “We know that all it takes for most people to fall in love with Simpson is for them to visit. Hearing that a student, alumni or faculty member is pleased with the appearance and/or functionality of campus certainly makes us proud.”
Several students have expressed their happiness for the changes they have seen on campus.
“Even after the really crappy winter we had, campus looks very nice now that all the snow is gone,” sophomore Sarah Silk said. “I’m glad the maintenance team has done so much to make our campus even more beautiful than it already is.”
