Women keep court hot with win vs. Central
September 13, 2012
Evidently Simpson’s women’s tennis team likes to play in the Iowa Conference. They proved it with another win against Central on Tuesday night.
The Storm started out a little bit shaky as they were only able to come away with one of the three doubles matches on Tuesday. After this rough start things did not look good early on.
However, with the stellar play of the women’s team in the singles matches, they were able to come out on top winning five matches to Central’s four and claim the victory over our rival.
The Storm was led by the inspiring and excellent play of senior Lindsay Nash and freshman Kelli Ehrhardt. Together they won their doubles match as well as won their singles matches fair handily.
“I think we are going to be pretty close on some of the other matches so I think that really making sure we get our double matches starting off strong is going to be really important,” Nash said. Ehrhardt, who had a great afternoon of tennis as well, credits her game plan on her success.
“I’ve just played my game and I really don’t think about my opponent, I just play how I want to play,” Ehrhardt said.
Head Coach Lindsay Chase was very pleased with the overall performance of the matches even with the team starting out a little bit slower than they would have liked.
“The team stayed mentally strong and competed exceptionally well. We didn’t get discouraged and battled until the end,” said Chase.
This win makes it three in a row for Simpson, making their overall record 4-3; notably 4-1 in conference play.
Their next upcoming matches will be held at Davenport Assumption High School where they will be taking on St. Ambrose at 10 a.m. and then later in the afternoon as they’ll play Wisconsin Stout at 1 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 15.
