After keeping the lead for so long, Simpson men’s soccer team could not hold onto a precious lead.

The Storm ended up in a tie after giving up two goals in the second half, in Thursday night’s conference battle against Wartburg.

The Storm led the scoring attack with a header by Jeremy Reinert in the 23rd minute. Mitchell White added a goal in the 69th minute to give the Storm a 2-0 lead. Both goals were assisted by Mark Lahart.

The Knights made a comeback in the second half. Zubeen Azari scored a goal in the 69th minute and Chris Nothnick scored a goal in the 79th minute to even the score at 2-2.

In overtime play, the Storm had their chances to score including a near goal by Mitchell White, but in the end , neither could muster up a score.

The Storm are now 8-4-1 on the season while settling for 1-0-1 in the Iowa Conference. Wartburg is 3-5-2 on their season and remain winless in conference play.

Head coach Rick Isaacson wasn’t too pleased with his team’s effort in the second half, but he knew it was a learning experience for his ball club.

“I am disappointed in the tie and how we allowed both goals in the second half,” Isaacson said. “But we are a young team and we will grow from this experience.”

The Storm are back on the pitch at 3 p.m. Saturday as they travel to Dubuque to take on the Spartans.
