Brett Roberts lone wrestler to place for Storm at Luther

With a slow start to the season, the Storm wrestling team places one out of ten wrestlers at Luther Open.

Entering a Luther open filled with competition, the Storm managed to only advance one wrestler in the freshman bracket and also had a wrestler finish 2-2 in the elite division.

Freshman Brett Roberts wrestled to a fifth-place finish in the 174-pound bracket of the Freshmen Division at the Luther Open on Saturday. Roberts began the day winning his open match but ended up losing his second match. Roberts advanced to the consolation semifinals with an additional two wins, including one resulting by an injury default.

He dropped a decision and won another due to another injury default. Roberts finished the open with a 4-2 record.

In addition, senior Corey Stratton had a strong performance in the elite division finishing with a record of 2-2. Stratton also advanced to the quarterfinal round of the consolation bracket before he dropped his second decision.

Even though the Luther open was disappointing, Head coach Nate Hansen and assistant coach Matt Hansen remain optimistic.

“We are disappointed in the way we performed this weekend,” assistant coach Matt Hansen said. “But we missed some of our upperclassmen due to injury. Getting them back should be beneficial for our lineup.”

The Storm head to the Coe open in Cedar Rapids Saturday, Nov. 17 beginning at 9 a.m.
