The Simpson Storm men’s wrestling team falls to Cornell in team play after a 40-6 defeat Tuesday night.

With wins from senior Cory Stratton and sophomore Greg Harlow the Storm couldn’t defeat a Cornell team who had seven of their wrestlers win their respective matches. The Storm lost their first dual meet of the season falling to 0-1.

The Storm compiled seven takedowns as a team opposed to Cornell’s fifteen takedowns. Cornell also had more near fall points with seventeen and escapes with 7.

At 157 pounds Cory Stratton won his matchup with an impressive 7-0 victory. At 165 pounds Greg Harlow also was victorious winning his matchup 7-3. Junior Jeff Sand had a competitive match at 141 pounds but fell 11-8.

Coach Nate Hansen was happy with his team’s effort but he hopes to finish off the close matches that were within reach.

“Our effort was there but we dropped a couple of matches that were in reach,” said Hansen. “If we had a few other guys look to score for seven minutes we would have had more wins last night.”

The Storm will host Williams and Wartburg in a double-dual meet on Friday Nov.30. Matches begin at 5:30 pm.
