Sophomore Megan Lein was awarded with the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week honor for the period ending Sunday, Nov. 18.

During a dual loss at Loras College, Lein, Des Moines East, won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:20.46, took third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:36.62, and was part of the winning 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:56.96.

“Practice was going really well before the meet,” Lein said. “Coach has been very attentive and good at changing things up with our strokes. So with that I have been confident with some of my weaker races from last year.”

Even with Lein’s success during the meet, she was still surprised when she was awarded swimmer of the week.

“I was very excited when I found out,” Lein said. “Our coach said that he never received the award and he was very successful and made it to nationals, so it was good to know that.”

Despite winning the award, Lein said her times weren’t her best. This could mean even more successful meets are in her future.

Lein is the first Simpson swimmer to win the swimmer of the week award this year. Freshman Kyle Mckim received honorable mention after his record breaking meet, setting three new records in the 100 breaststroke and was a part of the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay.

Lein and the Storm are off to the UNO Invitational at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The meet is this weekend.
