Simpson survives late Coe 19-4 second half run
January 27, 2013
Resiliency is a trait that separates a good team from a great team. On Saturday, the Storm women’s basketball squad displayed that trait to a 70-62 win.
The Storm became so hot in the first half that it was almost predictable that Simpson would run into a drought. At one point in the second half early, Simpson led 50-29, which was the biggest lead of the game.
After that 50th point, Coe started crawling back en route to a 19-4 run. Coe even brought their deficit to only a one-possession game.
But that’s where the resiliency comes in. Simpson didn’t panic. They reacted to Coe’s comeback push.
The four Simpson starting upperclassmen went 9-for-10 from the free throw line sealing their fate for a quest of an undefeated IIAC season.
Kate Nielsen had a game-high 28 points on 11-for-20 shooting from the floor; nearly making half of her team’s made field goals (23-for-59).
Simpson returns home Wednesday as they face Buena Vista as part of the final January doubleheader.
