Three Simpson College students were cited in Indianola on Saturday, Feb. 16 after admitting to a police officer that they’d smoked marijuana in a college parking lot.

Kyle Reimers, 19, Josh Sutton, 19, and James Vandenberg, 19, were all cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a police report. All three are members of the class of 2016, according to the Simpson College directory.

A fourth student with the group at the time was not cited

At 1:23 a.m. on Feb. 16 an Indianola police officer pulled over the Chevy Impala the group was in after he observed the car driving the wrong way on N. Howard Street, a one way street. The officer smelled marijuana coming out of the car, and asked the four students to get out of the car so he could perform a search.

Inside the car’s center console the officer found a red elephant-shaped marijuana pipe and metal grinder, which held marijuana residue, according to the report. Two plastic bags were found under the driver and passenger seats, both containing marijuana residue.

Another glass pipe containing residue was found in the map pocket behind the passenger seat.

The four students all admitted that Reimers, Sutton and Vandenberg had smoked marijuana in a college parking lot before being stopped, according to the police report.
