White, Kusy propel Simpson to 2-1 victory over Fontbonne

by Aaron Young

When Fontbonne University scored the game-tying goal in the 73rd minute, it seemed as if the Storm would be heading to overtime.

That is, until Simpson junior defender Kyle Kusy launched the go-ahead goal and eventual game-winner in Simpson’s 2-1 victory over Fontbonne Friday night.

Kusy dangled his way through defenders and launched about a 25-yard hammer to the back of the net in the 84th minute. The assist was credited to sophomore forward Tyler Neumann. The Storm were able to hold the Griffins’ scoring efforts during the final six minutes, walking away with its fourth win of the season.

Junior forward Mitchell White started the scoring for Simpson, sending his second goal of the season in between the goal posts in the 22nd minute.

Fontbonne’s Zach Meyer tied the game 1-1 in the 73rd minute off a Griffins’ corner kick just three-yards out.

Simpson (4-0-1) travels to Westminster (Mo.) for a non-conference bout on the pitch on Sept. 16. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., following the women’s contest.
