Simpson College to host Senate candidates’ debate

Simpson College will be hosting the first of three debates for the U.S. Senate candidates, Democrat Bruce Braley and Republican Joni Ernst. The event will be held at 5 p.m., Sept. 28 in Hubbell Hall in the Kent Campus Center.

“We are thrilled at the Culver Center to be co-hosting the US Senate and House debates,” Ray Walton, director of the John C. Culver Public Policy Center said. “It will be great exposure for Simpson and a terrific experiential learning opportunity for the Culver Fellows who will help present them,” Walton said.

Moderators will be Des Moines Register political columnist Kathie Obradovich and KCCI senior anchor Kevin Cooney.

The debate will air live on KCCI Channel 8 from 5 to 6 p.m. and broadcast simultaneously on the Register and KCCI websites.

Simpson will also host a second political debate on October 6 between Democrat Staci Appel and Republican David Young in the 3rd Congressional District.
