Women’s golf closes the IIAC Championship in 6th place

DUBUQUE, Iowa – After ending round one of the IIAC Championship in sixth place, women’s golf rode out this position for the next three rounds to end with a sixth place finish for the conference tournament.

Simpson shot a 383 as a team on Saturday, to end the tournament with a collective score of 1518, 14 shots ahead of Dubuque for sole possession of sixth place.

Wartburg College won their 8th straight IIAC Championship, shooting a team +132, 83 strokes ahead of second place Central College. Loras College edged Luther by one stroke to finish +295 for third place.

Wartburg’s Rochelle Beardsley shot a 309 (+23). The remaining four golfers for Wartburg finished in the top six, with Central’s Kelsey Van Tassel being the only non-Knight in the top five in second place.

Senior Lesley Pearey (87-87-101-93-368) led Simpson’s five golfers all throughout the tournament, finishing with a tie for 21st out of 40 golfers. Sophomore Coltyn Hunter shot a team-low 91 on Saturday to earn a tie for 24th, and second amongst all Storm golfers.

Allison McArtor shot a 387 for 28th place, while Holly Baiotto placed 29th with a 393, and freshman Courtney Mabeus rounded out Simpson’s group of five golfers with a 32nd place finish, shooting a 424.
