MT. PLEASANT, Iowa – Simpson women’s basketball made 10 three-pointers, shooting a blistering 47.6% from beyond the arc to down Iowa Wesleyan 70-56 on Thursday.

Junior Morgan Mauro came off the bench, leading Simpson (2-1) in scoring with 13 points as she made four of Simpson’s 10 triples.

The Tigers of Iowa Wesleyan (0-1) came out in their first game showing some season-opener jitters, turning the ball over 18 times as the Storm held on to the lead from whistle to whistle, turning the ball over only three times.

Iowa Wesleyan’s Karla Vietinghoff lead all scorers with 14 points, although she was outdone by a Storm team that had four players in double figures.

Rachel Kaale has another productive game, scoring 11 points while leading Simpson in rebounding with 5 boards.

Despite only shooting 3-14 from the field, sophomore guard Brittany Hedrick managed to produce 10 points, as junior MacKenzie Haupt also added 10.

Simpson will look to continue their well-rounded basketball as they take the short trip to Des Moines to face AIB at 1 p.m. this Saturday.
