Women’s swim and dive goes 1-2 on weekend roadtrip

Women’s swim and dive headed to Dubuque on Friday for the second dual-meet of the year as they fell to Loras College, 116-90.

The women had three first place finishes started off by junior sprinter, Christina Amburgy who took first with a time of 58.68 in the 100-yard freestyle.

Finishing with a time of 1:15.67 was sophomore Haley Blum as she placed first in the 100-yard freestyle.

Finishing out the first place finished for women’s swimming was the team of Megan Buitendorp, Katherine Rubins, Erica Carlson and Amburgy who took home first place in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:12.36.

In diving, junior Mackenzie Carson finished first in the 1 mtr dive with a score of 107.60.

Nov. 22, 2014 – Simpson 70, Beloit 51

Simpson 41, Ripon 79

The women’s swim and dive team stole one victory in their double-dual meet in Beloit, Wis. on Saturday, defeating Beloit College, 70-51.

They would later drop their final matchup of the weekend to Ripon College, 41-79.

The women failed to place first in any of the 28 events despite defeating Beloit.

Katherine Rubins was the lone first place finisher for the Storm, finishing first in the 500-yard freestyle.

The quartet of Buitendorp, Blum, Amburgy, and Tori Haag placed second in the 200-yard medley relay. They finished with a time of 2:03.65.

Another women’s quartet of Amburgy, Carlson, Buitendorp Haag also placed second in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

 Haag also placed second in the 200-yard freestyle event.

Other second place finishers for the Storm included:

Megan Buitendorp – 100-yard backstroke & 200-yard backstroke

Alex Vander Veen – 200-yard butterfly

Christina Amburgy – 100-yard freestyle

 The women’s swim and dive team currently sits at 1-3 on the season and will head to the Pioneer Classic Invitational in Grinnell on Dec. 5 in their next meet of the season.
