Men’s basketball righted their offensive woes, scoring 75 points Saturday but allowed 102 points to IIAC leading Buena Vista University.

Simpson College (6-17, 1-11) never once led as Buena Vista (17-6, 10-2) controlled the game from wire to wire.

The Storm were able to keep it within 10 for most of the first half, although a collective 57.6 shooting percentage and a Beavers team that went 20-26 from the line quelled any hopes for a Storm comeback.

Leif Olson scored a game-high 13 points and Charles Swain and DJ Dafney both added nine points while the Storm were outrebounded 47-25.

Six players scored in double-figures for the Beavers, led by Kennedy Drey with 18 and 14 rebounds. Bret Heltkamp also recorded a double-double, scoring 14 while rebounding 12.

Going forward:

It is ten straight losses for the Storm and with Saturday’s game; Simpson is out of contention for IIAC Tournament play with two games remaining.

After taking on Coe College on Wednesday, Feb. 18, Simpson will host Loras College on Feb. 21 to close out the season.

Milestone watch:

Swain sits at 973 career points, 27 short of 1,000, needing to average 13.5 points per game in the final two games, 1.5 points greater than his average, to reach the milestone.
