Volleyball succumbs to Graceland comeback
October 15, 2015
INDIANOLA, Iowa – Simpson got out to a 2-0 set lead and looked poised to close out the match in straight sets, but the Graceland Yellow Jackets forged a comeback to win 3-2 on Thursday night.
The Storm’s performance was markedly different in the final three sets, as they hit just .108 through the final three sets after hitting .290 for the first two.
Simpson (11-14) had a chance to salvage the match tied 10-10 in the fifth set, although the Yellow Jackets (11-13) would go on a 5-1 run to close out the rally.
Both teams had trouble serving, with Graceland committing 11 service errors to nine for the Storm, although Graceland hit .055 points better to help mask the miscues.
Tabitha Blaser had 13 kills on a .127 kill percentage to lead Simpson, while Allie Krabbenhoft led all players with 14 kills.
Freshman Maura Chadwick had 21 assists, two short of a career-high, to match Sara Hoppenworth. Olivia Sulentic led Simpson with 28 digs.
The Storm take on a pair of non-conference foes on Saturday when they head to the Gustavus Adolphus Quadrangular to face the Gusties and Hamline. The first-serve of match one of the day is at 12 p.m.
