Simpson takes 6th, Wartburg wins ninth-straight IIAC Women’s Golf Championship

PEOSTA, Iowa – After four rounds at the IIAC Women’s Golf Championship, the Wartburg women’s golf team continued their dominance in conference, winning their ninth straight title with a record setting score.

The Knights broke the championship record by a staggering 26 strokes at the Thunder Hills Country Club, finishing 88 strokes better than second place Central College. 

Rochelle Beardsley was the conference individual champion, shooting 17-over par to earn IIAC-MVP. Wartburg coach Monica Severson was named conference coach of the year, leading six Knights to top-ten finishes in the tournament.

Simpson took 13 more shots in round four than in its round three total but didn’t lose any ground as they finished sixth of the eight Iowa Conference teams competing.

Simpson was 131 strokes ahead of seventh place Buena Vista but 12 strokes back of fifth place Coe.

Courtney Mabeus finished tied for 19th to lead Simpson and Kelsa Berkland waa close behind for the Storm at 22nd in the field of 40 golfers.

The tournament concludes the fall season for Simpson while Wartburg will advance to the 2016 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas in May.
