WAVERLY, Iowa – Any hopes for postseason play came to an end for the Simpson women’s soccer team on Saturday.  The Storm fell 5-1 to IIAC top-ranked Wartburg College, eliminating the Storm from the IIAC Tournament field with one regular season game remaining.

The Knights (12-4-1, 5-1-0) staked their claim on the game early, getting off to a 1-0 lead on Morgan Neuendorf goal in the 1st minute.

Wartburg’s Alyssa Drewelow scored her first of two goals on the day just 58 seconds later, establishing a 2-0 lead before Meredith Harrison scored Simpson’s lone goal with an assist from Mackenzie Stump.

Simpson (4-13-0, 0-6-0) would allow three more second half goals as goalkeeper Kristin Riley dropped to 2-2-0 on the season in the net.

Wartburg bombarded the Storm’s backline, putting up 35 shots to only six for Simpson – including nine corner kicks to nil for the Storm. Riley made 11 saves despite the loss.

Simpson plays it final game of the 2015 campaign this Tuesday, Oct. 27 when it hosts Buena Vista (3-12-0, 0-6-0) at 5 p.m. for Senior Night.

The Storm played one of its tighter matches last season against the Beavers, forcing a 1-1 draw in Storm Lake.
