A GoFundMe page has been set up for Ishaya David, a Simpson student, lost his brother, Iliya, on Oct. 14, in order to visit family in Nigeria.

In less than 24 hours, more than 70 people donated over $1,500.

“I didn’t know it took off so quickly,” Shawn Schossow, who organized the fundraiser, said. “I’m teary eyed. I knew we were a close community, but this is just amazing. I’m so happy for Ishaya. This is going to help him so much.”

David flies out on Oct. 16. Funds will go toward David’s host family to pay for airfare.

Because it was on such short notice, the plane ticket was expensive, according to the family.

Schossow, wrote on his Facebook wall, “Ishaya is one of the most kind and respectable people I have had the honor to work with and befriend, and he deserves all of the help we can provide.”

Schossow said in order to alleviate financial burden’s on his host family, a goal of $1,500 by winter break — which starts Dec. 19 — is in place.

“We would also ask that you please extend your support to Ishaya in order to ease him through this grievous time,” the post reads.
