Simpson wrestling falls prey in Wartburg’s 181st straight IIAC-dual win

WAVERLY, Iowa – If Wednesday night’s dual was any indication, No. 1 Wartburg looks like they’ll continue their stranglehold in the Iowa Conference. 

The Wartburg Knights improved to 1-0 in duals on the season, dominating Simpson 49-6 with the help of seven top 10 wrestlers.

Simpson’s only points came when Brett Roberts pinned No. 8 Bryan Levsen at 184 as he improved to 3-0 in dual meets on the season, continuing to show his ability to compete against the nation’s best.

The Knights pinned Simpson (1-2, 0-1) six times, finishing with three straight pins to end the match.

Wartburg head coach Eric Keller earned his 100th win on Wednesday as Wartburg notched their 181st straight Iowa Conference win.

Simpson will head back to the eastern half of the state on Saturday for the Coe Turkey Invitational in Cedar Rapids. Wrestling begins at 9 a.m.
