President Stuebner announced to the Simpson College community on Tuesday, April 14 that Jason Mulligan would be filling the director of athletics role starting June 1, 2026. He will be taking over for Heath Moenck, who has been serving as interim athletics director since Jan. 1.
Mulligan is excited to continue building and bettering Simpson Athletics after more than 20 years of NCAA Division III experience as an administrator and coach.
“Success starts with building genuine relationships, setting clear expectations and creating an environment where our student-athletes, coaches and staff can thrive every day,” said Mulligan via Simpson release, “Athletics is the front porch of the college – bringing people together and representing Simpson in a first-class way. I’m excited to get to work, invest in our staff and student-athletes and compete for A-R-C championships and NCAA berths.”
Mulligan is joining Simpson after leaving Rockford University in August of last year. He resided as the director of athletics there for eight years. There he focused on strengthening recruitment and retention with initiatives like facility enhancement projects and adding new varsity sports.
Prior to his time at Rockford University, Mulligan had a variety of administrative and coaching roles, including director of athletic facilities and head men’s basketball coach at the University of New England and assistant director of athletics and assistant basketball coach for Wabash College.
“I’m incredibly honored to join Simpson College and build on the strong foundation already in place. What really stands out here are the people – especially their commitment to students, their pride in the institution and their belief in what athletics can mean to a campus and a community,” said Mulligan via Simpson release.
Mulligan is a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University with a speech communication and rhetoric degree, and he holds his master of science in education from Nova Southeastern University.
“We are pleased to have someone of Jason’s caliber joining our Simpson community,” said President Sue Stuebner via Simpson release, “I am confident that with Jason’s leadership and knowledge, Storm athletics will continue to build on our exciting momentum.”
