The Simpson College women’s soccer team made a strong statement Wednesday night at Buxton Stadium, beating Monmouth College in a 5-1 victory.
After giving up an early goal in the fourth minute, they responded by scoring five straight goals and took control.
With the win, Simpson improved to 4-3-2 on the season, while Monmouth fell to 4-3-1.
Simpson also outshot Monmouth 31-3 and put 13 shots on target. It was one of their most complete performances this year.
Beyond the numbers, the team’s chemistry played a role in how they were able to come back quickly.
Senior Elle Street scored the first goal to make the game even in the seventh minute. Later, she set up Abby Bell’s goal, helping Simpson take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
“It wasn’t really about individual stats,” Street said. “I just tried to give my best wherever the team needed me.”
Street played five different positions during the game, something she hadn’t expected.
“Playing multiple positions wasn’t planned, but sometimes the game demands it,” Street said. “My teammates really helped me with the transitions and always had my back on the field.”
Though the Storm pulled away during the second half of the game.
Ally Hoffa kicked off a scoring run in the 63rd minute, with a goal assisted by Pepper Earle and Camden Palmer.
Two minutes later, Hoffa set up Georgia Paulson for Simpson’s fourth goal, before the two combined again to feed Taylor Smith, who scored the fifth goal in the 68th minute.
Hoffa was involved in three of those goals during the scoring stretch.
For Hoffa, the game also helped build confidence within herself. She’s adjusting to a new role this season, moving from midfield to forward.
“Taking on this new position brought a lot of pressure,” Hoffa said. “Scoring helped boost my confidence and gave me motivation for the next match.”
Hoffa also emphasized the team’s focus on playing a full 90 minutes, a challenge they’ve struggled with earlier this season.
“We’ve had trouble putting together two strong halves,” she said. “But after giving up that early goal, we stayed calm and stuck to our plan.”
Staying calm under pressure is becoming a part of this team. With several underclassmen stepping into key roles, the group is starting to come together
“We are only getting better,” Hoffa said. “Moving Street up top has added speed and energy to our offense. We’re ready to start finishing teams off.”
Hoffa’s confidence matches the team’s growing momentum. Street remains focused on steady improvement.
“My goal is to keep working hard, stay coachable, and keep growing,” she said. “I just want to do whatever helps the team.”
With conference play just around the corner, the Storm is confident and excited about what’s next.
