INDIANAPOLIS – The Simpson College Speech & Debate Team took top honors at the Butler Bulldog Public Communication Speech & Debate League this past weekend.

Simpson Speech placed first in overall team points, and Simpson Debate narrowly defeated Northwest Missouri State University to take first in overall team points.

PUBLIC FORUM DEBATE:

Pierce Carey and Lucas Monroe defeated NWMSU to win the tournament.

Kelsey Schott and Sarah Baker placed third.

The team competed Saturday at Butler’s traditional speech and parliamentary debate tournament against 15 other schools. Simpson Debate placed third in team points for debate.

Simpson College had two teams make it to quarterfinals. They were Alex Geren and Will Seiler; and Tegan Jarchow and Kelsey Schott. Both lost to Purdue University.

Michelle Beving was awarded sixth best speaker, and Pierce Carey was fourth best speaker at the tournament.

Simpson College’s Novice Parliamentary Debate squad defeated DePauw University to take the top two spots at the tournament: Lucas Monroe and Sydney Samples; and Randy Paulson and Lydia Magalhaes

In Speech, Riley Brennan made it to finals in Program Oral Interp. and in Dramatic Interp. She placed sixth in both events.
