Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on this campus is a huge joke, yet we use it as a pull to get students to come to Simpson. This is not an inclusive campus. On more than one occasion, students have cried over DEI issues. 

Let’s go over a few.

First off, recently, a monologue was used in class that implies Matthew Shepard deserved what he got because he was gay and therefore probably had AIDS. He was beaten, tortured and left to die because of who he was. This is regarded as one of the most famous gay-hate murders. There was no content warning. A student cried because of the content. There was no need for this piece to be used, yet, it was defended by DEI.

A student was threatened with being fired due to having a disability.

A professor has stated asexual people don’t exist AND uses the r-slur in classes. Slurs get thrown around on this campus and are addressed as “opposing opinions that should start a discussion.”

On that note, professors are supposed to allow NAZIS into their classes to speak because they have differing opinions. The case of differing opinions is the matter used to defend the liberal arts standard from different points of view. These “differing opinions” can be, and are, heinous and damaging. 

There are no content warnings on class content because they are “learning opportunities.” 

Professors are fat-shaming students. Professors not respecting pronouns. I can go on.

Let’s end with the Vice President of Diversity Equity. In a Title IX presentation that was to be given to a group of students, incorrect and outdated definitions of LGBTQ+ terms were included and had to be corrected by students. 

STUDENTS SHOULD NOT BE THE HEAD OF DEI ON CAMPUS.

STUDENTS ARE SCARED OF REPORTING DEI ISSUES.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION DOES NOT EXIST AT SIMPSON.

I am worried about even sending this to you because DEI is hush-hush on this campus; we would rather defend Nazis in the classroom than those whose gender doesn’t fit the sex they were born with.
