With every new school year comes new elections for the Student Government Association (SGA). Kylie Rae Torres was elected as the first-year president, and Kyle Werner was elected as the first-year senator. Both explained why they wanted to run for SGA and what they hoped to accomplish.

Torres decided to run for SGA to make sure other students’ voices could be heard and listened to.

“I wanted to be in a position of power where I can help people and have their voices be heard,” Torres said.

Werner decided to run for SGA to follow in the footsteps of an older sibling.

“I decided to run for SGA this year to help create a fostering environment at Simpson as my sister did so many years ago,” Werner said.

Werner explains what they are most excited about for the upcoming year as being a first-year class senator.

“I am looking forward to being a part of a process that evolves students and being active just on campus in our community and being able to listen to others and do what’s best for our community,” Werner said.

Werner also explained how he is ready to try and solve any problem that may occur and is always willing to help.

“Any problems that arise, I want to be able to help as much as possible,” Werner said.

This year, Torres encourages others to get vaccinated and accomplish the 80% student vaccination goals.

“Hopefully, by the end of the semester or next semester that we can get our masks off, and we can actually be able to do stuff normally like we used to before COVID,” Torres said.
