A trip to the University of Minnesota, touring the Minnesota Vikings practice facilities, and a possible trip to Tampa Bay for this year’s Super Bowl, the sports administration club can do it all. 

Currently, there are between 12 and 15 students enlisted in the sports admin club. The club meets once a month, usually at the end of the month.

Mac Roush, a senior this year, has been the standing president of the club for the past three years. Roush, his sophomore year, started the club back up after being dormant for many years. His contribution to the club can be seen through the club’s trip last year to the University of Minnesota. 

“We have been able to work with different organizations, just different opportunities to talk and work with other people, like being able to talk with Alumni is really nice,” said Roush when asked about the connections made through the club. “We went to visit the Vikings, Timberwolves and the University of Minnesota, and basically we had an alumni Brady Buresh, the director of operations for TCF Bank Stadium, we were able to tour there and network with Simpson alumni.”

Roush and the 14 others that attended the University of Minnesota were privileged enough for these opportunities and the knowledge received while on the trip.

“We got direct examples of what the work is like in our field of study, and so it was interesting to see how what we are studying can apply to so many different things and how the connections we’ve made can propel us forward,” said Roush about his experience at Minnesota. 

The club also had the opportunity to apply for internships positions with the Iowa Cubs organization. Jackson Reuter, a junior member of the club, talks about his internship experience with the Cubs. 

“I give the sports admin club credit for giving me that [Iowa Cubs] internship because they brought it up to us, that a couple of people from the organization were going to come talk to us about a possible summer internship with them,” said Reuter, who was accepted for the ticket sales internship.  

Unfortunately, the global Coronavirus pandemic cut Reuters time with the Cubs short but hopefully wishes to reapply this winter if given the opportunity once more.

The club has connected and networked with many organizations like the Iowa Cubs and looks toward a possible future trip to Tampa Bay to hopefully volunteer for this year’s Super Bowl. 

“The sports admin club has given me more people who share my major, which helps because if I have any questions or anything, I can go to anybody, and they can help,” Reuter said.

The club brings together all those who are in the field of Sports Administration and shows them just how their intended major can be put into perspective in the real world and how diverse the profession can be.
