Four named to All-IIAC basketball teams, Amsbaugh & Morrow 1st team
March 4, 2016
Men’s and women’s basketball combined to feature four all-conference performers for the 2015-16 season.
Women’s Basketball:
1st Team: Sophomore Noreen Morrow – 11.7 ppg, 6.8 rpg
Honorable Mention: Mackenzie Haupt – 11.0 ppg, 2.1 spg
Morrow put up a team-high six double-doubles in a breakout sophomore season, improving from just a 1.2 ppg average during her freshman year.
Haupt’s quick hands earned her 55 steals, second-most in the Iowa Conference. The senior takes home her second all-conference accolade after being selected to the Iowa Conference 2nd team last season.
Men’s Basketball:
1st Team: Sam Amsbaugh – 15.0 ppg, 6.1 rpg
2nd Team: Dillon Gretzky – 14.2 ppg, 5.3 rpg
According to the Simpson Athletics Communication Department, Amsbaugh becomes the second youngest 1st-team selection for the Simpson men’s basketball team since Tim Dunlay in 2007-08. The 6-5 sophomore generated big numbers despite coming off the bench in 12 of 26 games.
Gretzky scored in double-figures in 22 of 26 games and earned IIAC Performer of the Week accolades during the Storm’s trip to the Rhodes College Tournament in November.
Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams finished the year 15-11, 8-6 in IIAC play after being eliminated in the 1st round of the IIAC Tournament.
