Men’s Cross Country
19th @ Roy Griak Cross Invitational (488): Junior Eric Osterhaus finished 14th (26:24) and was the Storm’s top performer.
Women’s Cross Country
17th @ Roy Griak Cross Invitational (450): Freshman Catie Ellingson recorded the fastest time for Simpson (23:51), placing 27th.
Football (2-3 Overall, 1-2 IIAC)
W 33-26 (2 0T) @ Loras, Sept. 29: Simpson erased a 17-3 halftime deficit to force overtime, where a quarterback sneak from junior Travis Dietz proved to be the winning score. Junior running back Adam Reutzel rushed for 80 yards, had five receptions for 62 yards, and completed a 25-yard pass. Senior receiver Trent Kain had eight catches for 123 yards and two touchdowns.
Women’s Golf
3rd @ IIAC Championships through two rounds (337, 336), Sept. 28-29: Sophomore Megan Smith shot a 162 on the first weekend of the tournament (83, 79), placing her fifth. Senior Noel Triebel was one of three players tied for sixth after shooting a 163 (77, 86).
Men’s Soccer (2-7-1, 2-0 IIAC)
W 2-1 (OT) @ Dubuque, Sept. 29: Freshman mid-fielder Sandro Tanic scored the winning goal in overtime. Fellow freshman, midfielder Erik Montelongo, tied the game late in regulation.
L 2-1 @ St. Thomas (Minn.), Sept. 30: Freshman forward Jim Frizzell scored the only goal for the Storm.
Women’s Soccer (3-5, 1-1 IIAC)
L 2-1 @ Dubuque, Sept. 29: Sophomore mid-fielder Erin Vinnedge scored the lone goal for Simpson, who lost for the first time in seven games to the Spartans.
Women’s Tennis (7-8, 5-4 IIAC)
W 5-4 @ Augustana (Ill.), Sept. 26: Junior Jessica Nims, junior Alissa Nance, and freshman Jill Berner earned singles victories for the Storm, while the combinations of Nims and senior Martha Davis and Nance and junior Jackie Suckow notched doubles wins.
W 8-1 vs. Buena Vista, Sept. 28: Simpson suffered only one singles loss to earn their sixth straight victory.
L 6-3 vs. William Jewell, Sept. 29: The Storm’s winning streak ended at six. Berner and junior Gwen Kingsbury picked up singles victories, while the same combination took Simpson’s only doubles victory.
Women’s Tennis (7-8, 5-4 IIAC)
W 3-2 @ Loras, Sept. 25: Sophomore middle-hitter Whitney Oviatt led four Simpson players in double-digit kills with 12 while adding 13 digs and five blocks.
3-1 @ Simpson Invitational, Sept. 28-29: Simpson fell to UW-La Crosse (3-1) before defeating Principia (3-0), UW-River Falls (3-0), and Loras (3-0). Sophomore setter Tara Christensen and sophomore outside hitter Maggie Schuttler were named to the all-tournament team.
