Nearing the end of her senior year at Simpson, Sherrill Buzbee is grateful for all the experiences life has given her.

After her freshman year at the University of Oklahoma, Buzbee transferred to Simpson to continue her major in vocal music education.

“Although I loved school in Oklahoma, I felt lost in their Music Department,” Buzbee said. “I chose to transfer to Simpson because of the intimate atmosphere and personal attention offered.”

While many hear about the demanding schedule that comes with being a music major, Buzbee still manages to enjoy free time. Some of her hobbies include reading, dreaming of warm weather, meaningful conversations, and cheering on the Oklahoma Sooners. Buzbee is also a community adviser, President of Mu Phi Epsilon, a participant in Epsilon Sigma, and a member of Crossroads United Church of Christ.

Attending Simpson has taught Buzbee a great deal about herself.

“I’ve learned to value differences, pray, practice frugality, live in the moment, and teach,” Buzbee said.

While college has taught her many lessons, Buzbee has also been greatly influenced by her family.

“My mother and daddy have instilled in me a sense of love, generosity, and family,” Buzbee said. “Much of who I am today is a direct reflection of them.”

After college, Buzbee wants to do some traveling, and is currently running for a Fullbright grant to visit South Korea for a year. After her travels, she would like to return home to teach elementary music (somewhere warm, of course).

Buzbee wants to encourage students to do plenty of exploring and discovery during their time at college. She continues to seize opportunities and this is a reflection of her favorite quote.

“There is no merit in just thinking about doing something. The result is exactly the same as not thinking about it.”
