Panhellenic Council promotes Greek community

by Kimberly Kurimski & Katie Elder

One of Panhellenic Council’s goals this semester is to bring awareness about what Panhellenic Council is. We realized that few students know what Panhellenic Council is even for. So let us tell you!

Simpson College Panhellenic Council is a governing body consisting of members from each housed sorority on campus. We promote inter-sorority relations and ensure that each sorority is upholding the standards of the Simpson College Greek Community. The council is comprised of two representatives from each sorority, six executive members, and an adviser. For this spring semester, the members are as such:

President-Katie Elder

Vice president of Internal Affairs-Allyson Krumm

Vice president of Records-Alexis Lisle

Vice presidents of Recruitment-Kelsey Reynoldson and Anna Vollmer

Vice president of Programming-Sarah Morgan

Delta Delta Delta delegates-Amanda Jones and Angela Stoelk

Kappa Kappa Gamma delegates-Sarah Hale and Kimberly Kurimski

Pi Beta Phi delegates-Hannah Landgraf and Chrissy Meggers

Advisor-Lindsey Sheeder

Also, all three of the sororities, Delta Delta Delta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Pi Beta Phi, are members of the National Panhellenic Conference, which means there are other chapters of the same sorority across the nation at other colleges and universities.

For 2011, we have set many goals for the Council and individual houses to work on. These include a Greek Unity event, Alcohol-Free weekend, and more informational events about Greek Life in general.

This semester we hold meetings bi-weekly on Thursdays at 1:00 p.m.. We have changed up our location for these meetings by holding them at a different house each time.

Panhellenic Council has done many things in the past around Simpson including Greek BBQ, Greek Bingo, Unity Events, and Greek Week events.

Some things to look for in the upcoming semester that Panhellenic Council will be involved in are lip sync during Greek Week, philanthropy events, and possible Unity Events.
