This semester is nearing its end and seniors have a chance to check last minute graduation items off their list at the Senior Finale.

The event is sponsored by the offices of alumni relations and career services and will be held in Hopper gymnasium April 7 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and later that day at 4-6 p.m.

Career counselor Erin Swancutt describes Senior Finale.

“It’s a one-stop shop where seniors can go and get pretty much everything done that they need to do before they graduate so they can meet with all of the different offices, check in with them to see if there is anything that they need to get cleared before they graduate,” Swancutt said. “It’s to get all of those loose ends tied up before they graduate so they don’t have to run all over campus to do it. Instead they get it done at one place at one time.”

Leslie Held, director of alumni relations remembers before Senior Finale took place.

“The way it started was that we realized that our seniors are spending the last couple weeks on campus running around and checking things off their list and it can be anything from making sure that their business account is taken care of, to returning library books, making sure that we have their forwarding address for their mail, those sorts of things,” Held said. “So we thought that it might be a great thing if we’d put all the departments together in one spot so seniors can go over with a checklist and go from table to table to get all of it taken care of.”

Swancutt also realized the need for the event.

“When the offices got thinking we thought ‘Man, we ask the seniors to do a lot of different things at a lot of different times. What can we do to make it easier for them?'” Swancutt said. “It seemed that it made a lot more sense so that it’s not us asking for stuff all over the place and confusing them when they think, ‘I thought I did this already’ or ‘when do I have to do this?'”

This is the second annual Senior Finale after positive feedback was received a year ago.

“We had a great turnout last year, probably 60 to 70 percent of our grads stopped by that day,” Held said. “We got great feedback because it made life a lot easier for them last year.”

Along with the early shift, the 4-6 p.m. shift was appreciated last year.

“We went with two shifts so that those who might be off campus at their internship or those who are student teaching all have a chance to attend,” Held said. “Also, so that our evening, night, and weekend grads can get down here as well to get their things taken care of.”

The two shifts allow the opportunity for students to attend when it is best for them.

“By having two shifts it allows seniors to attend whenever it is most convenient for them,” Swancutt said.

Senior Hank Muzney thinks it is a great idea.

“It makes it so seniors don’t have to do a lot of running around and other mindless stuff that doesn’t need to be done,” Muzney said.

Senior Finale helps everyone in the long run.

“It really is a mutual benefit,” Held said. “We get more information and it is easier for the seniors.”
