Our View

In a time where it seems that Simpson may be struggling, alumni are returning to campus to bring departments together to inspire courage and perseverance.

The latest example of this is Gayletha Nichols, who recently returned to campus to work with music majors.

Nichols, who now is the executive director of the Metropolitan Opera’s National Council Auditions, took time out of her hectic schedule to meet with students and faculty to give advice on how to succeed in this industry.

This is not the only alumnus to take time out of a busy schedule to reassure students that they are not alone.

This is something that Simpson needs to be reminded of, something that needs to be promoted throughout all campus and to all of the students-that we are SC. Students, faculty, staff and alumni are all SC.

We need to remember that while times are tough right now, we will prevail. Our alumni connections are strong, and they’re hanging tough by our side right now-we just have to get through this.

This is a time to come together, not point the finger of blame.

We are SC, and we will remain SC-we just have to get over this bump in the road.
