The Simpson Women’s Basketball team was looking to come away with a huge win early on in conference play, as they traveled to Decorah to take on the Norse Wednesday evening.
The Storm ended up on the winning end 71-62, but it was the type of game that everyone would have anticipated between the two teams.
Senior Kate Nielsen led the way for the Storm on offense again as she racked up a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds despite getting off to a slower start than she would have liked.
On paper, this looked to be an exciting match up to start off conference play because both teams were leading the way with the two best overall records in the conference, and sure enough that is how it turned out. Both teams were not having their shots go down like they would have liked as they each shot 33% in the first half, and this would continue to be the case for most of the game.
The game was going to come down to defense and limiting the amount of turnovers for both teams. The Storm fought throughout the entire game getting production from every player that stepped out on the court. Pivotal shots throughout the game kept the Storm intact throughout the game, especially in the second half.
Free throw shooting was kind for the Storm as they went 20-for-24 from the line.
The Storm keep on continuing their dominant season by starting out conference 2-0, and looking to add on to it as they prepare for this weekend. They will be in action again on Saturday, January 12, where they will be taking on Wartburg at home. Tip off will be at 2 p.m.
