From 80 and sunny to windy, rainy and 30 degrees at best. The Simpson College softball team had to deal with chilly weather this past weekend, and still found a way to come out victorious in their double header at Northwestern.

The ladies started off a little rocky in game one, not recording a run until the fourth inning. Luckily, Northwestern had only posted one run at that time. Trailing 4-3 heading into the final inning, Kylie Van Houten took the first pitch she saw and lined it over the fence for a 3-run walk off homerun.

The second game started off a little better for the Storm scoring eight runs within the first two innings. The homeruns had been flying all day. Senior Jessica Toyne hit two, while junior Kylie Van Houten also had two, and Stacie Brown hit one to give the ladies five in two games. Grace Hall stepped up and had a good day behind the plate.

Kacee Arey pitched both games with a combine 12.1 innings through two, and is now sitting at 13-2 with one of the best records in the conference. Arey pitched the entire first game, while Kaytlyn Ernst came in to close out the second.

“Overall it wasn’t our best set of games,” said Kacee Arey. “But we walked away with two wins and that’s all the really counts.”

The ladies were scheduled to play this Tuesday, March 26, but it has been postponed due to weather.
