Storm Power past Eagles

by Bryce Phillips

Fresh off a long invitational in Arizona, the Storm continued where they left off defeating the AIB Eagles 9-4.

The Storm were led by freshman Jake Anctil, and sophomore Bud Smith. Trailing 4-2 in the sixth inning Jake Barr and Jake Esdohr each hit RBI singles to tie the game. The pinch hitter, Anctil stepped in, and gave the Storm a three run score to extend the lead. After a couple of errors by the Eagles, Smith stepped to the plate and launched a two run homer over left field to put the Storm up for good.

“Every game we talk about learning from the previous game and playing pitch by pitch, Coach Blake said. Playing one game at a time is crucial to our success this season.”

After catching the flu early in the invitational down in Arizona, the Storm have heated up winning their last five games. Over the span of the game Simpson held AIB to just one run in the last seven innings using seven relievers. Daulton Gibson closed the game out to give Simpson its sixth win of the season.

The Eagles started off hot right from the gate off a Steven Levertt two-run home run. AIB held onto a 4-0 lead for much of the game until Esdohr’s RBI single. AIB fell to 3-7 and the Storm improved to 6-3 on the year.

Up next for the Storm is their first conference game against Coe College. The Storm will have a busy weekend as they compete in a double header on Saturday. You can catch the games Friday and Saturday afternoon at McBride field at 1p.m. and 3p.m.
