Volleyball Home Opener Ends in Loss to Wartburg

A formidable Wartburg team came to Indianola Wednesday to claim a 3-1 victory over the Storm in Simpson’s home opener.

Both teams took turns winning 25-13 sets in the first two sets. Wartburg sealed the 3-1 victory after winning the next two sets in commanding fashion (25-8, 25-18).

Wartburg created large separation with Simpson, winning in kills percentage, .237 to Simpson’s .085. Bailey Wilson lead the Wartburg Knights (11-2, 1-0) with 15.5 points while Maria Brown lead with 19 assists.

The usual suspects were back at it for Simpson, who fell to 5-6 overall and 0-1 in IIAC play. Katie Kieffer continued to tear up the assists column, recording 36. Junior Tabitha Blaser chipped in with a team-high 12 points, while digs specialist, Kayla Aronow had 20 digs. Jacqueline Luth contributed with ten points.

The Storm’s next home match comes on Sept 23 at 7:30 p.m. when Simpson gets another home match as they welcome another IIAC opponent, Luther College (7-5), to Cowles Fieldhouse.
