INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Storm responded with second half goals from Anthony Ashbridge and Collin Hemann to clinch a 2-1 comeback win against Westminster College Tuesday.

Both offenses were dormant through the first 63 minutes of play before a fluky throw-in goal slipped through the hands of usually reliable goalkeeper, Zach McEntee, to give Westminster the first goal of the game. The Storm (8-3) responded only a minute later on a 35-yard bomb from Anthony Ashbridge to tie up the contest 1-1. Ashbridge’s score came in the 65th minute.

Sophomore Collin Hemann wasted no time in giving Simpson the lead, scoring within four minutes of Ashbridge. Spencer Cook served up the assist on the goal. This was Hemann’s third goal of the year, matching his season total from last year.

“The goal came off of a throw in from Marcus Varnum. Spencer got a hold of it and just found me open for the goal,” said Hemann describing his game-winning goal. “I’m really liking these cleats I’ve been wearing, they’ve been lucky for me. I think I’m going to stick with these.”

After beating the Blue Jays 4-0 on the road last season, the Storm let a weaker (2-6) squad stick around Tuesday in a game that had a sleepy mid-week feel to it for much of the contest.

Despite the win and extending their win streak to four games, the men’s soccer team had mixed emotions coming off the field.

“We wanted to use today as our final tuneup for Wartburg because we know there’s a lot at stake Saturday, said head coach Rick Isaacson. “We were pleased with the result we got but we all are a little discontent with the way we performed. It is a unique situation of being glad we won, but we aren’t happy with the way we played.”

Simpson’s winning percentage is bolstered up to a hearty .727 with Tuesday’s win, although they know they’ll have to put in the work before the conference opener against Wartburg on Saturday.

Simpson is currently alone in 3rd place in the IIAC standings as Wartburg sits at 4th at (5-2-1). Wartburg is receiving votes for the NCAA Top 25 ranking.

The Storm will host the Knights at 1 p.m. this Saturday at Bill Buxton Stadium as they hunt for their 5th straight win.
