DUBUQUE, Iowa – An efficient Dubuque offense was too much for the Storm to handle as the Spartans ran away with a 44-10 victory on Saturday.

Simpson (3-2, 0-2 IIAC) only generated 292 total yards of offense as Dubuque (2-3, 1-1 IIAC) nearly matched that in passing yards alone, earning a mere 18 first downs to Dubuque’s 29.

Senior quarterback, Zach Fry, in his first year with the starting role for the Spartans, played a nearly spotless game, passing for 283 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Fry found receiver Zach Bagley seven times for 111 yards and a touchdown while going also to wide-out Tyler Rutenback for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

Jordan Beem provided one of the lone bright spots for the Storm on the offensive end, accumulating 84 all-purpose yards and one touchdown on the ground.

Quarterback Dylan Berkey had the tamest game of the season yet, going 13-31 in the air for 140 yards.

The closest the Storm got all day was 14-7 at the 13:22 mark in the second quarter following the Beem touchdown run. This seven-point margin was almost immediately widened as Dubuque’s Milton Greer responded with a three-yard touchdown run of his own to extend the Spartan lead to 21-7.

The Storm were within the Dubuque 40 on their next drive when the Spartans forced a Simpson fumble that was gobbled up by Dylan Ramsey who took it the other way for a 70-yard touchdown runback.

At 28-7 the Spartans did not look back as they went on to add 16 more points in the second half to hand Simpson their second loss in as many games.

The Storm lost the time of possession and turnover battles for the first time this season, two statistical columns that had paved the way for a 3-0 non-conference start to the season.

Abe Wolfe led Simpson defenders with 12 tackles, as Adrean Johnson was close behind with 10. Simpson did not record a sack on Saturday.

The Storm will aim to get back on the winning side of things as they host Coe College next Saturday at 1 p.m. in the annual homecoming game. Coe comes into the game 2-3 (1-1 IIAC), looking to avenge their 41-38 loss to the Storm last year.
