Volleyball edges Loras in five sets in final home match of the season

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Simpson Volleyball won an exciting, back and forth match over Loras College in 5 sets (25-20, 15-25, 25-20, 15-25, 15-9).

Three Storm players ended the night with double-digit kills. Tabitha Blaser, who was key in the 5th set, lead the Storm with 18 kills. Mackenzie McGraw was close behind with 17 kills, and freshman Elisa Wildy added 10 kills.

Katie Kieffer had a breakout night with 53 assists, while Kayla Aronow dug out a game high 29 digs, and Olivia Suentic added 27 of her own.

There were no standout performances for Loras (11-6, 1-5 IIAC), as Kara Kentner led with 10 kills. Simpson (11-13, 2-4 IIAC) made 36 errors to keep Loras in a game in which the two teams combined for three sets in which they hit below .100.

Simpson won the 5th set with the help of a 12-0 run that was ignited by a series of athletic digs and four-straight kills from Blaser.

This win slides Simpson into sixth place in the IIAC, in position to get an entry to the IIAC tournament if play were to end today. Simpson’s final conference match comes against Central College next Tuesday.

The Storm will get a brief break from conference play as they head to Decatur, Ill. for the Linda Slagell Dig for the Cure Tournament hosted by Milikin University. Play kicks off at 4 p.m. against UW-Platteville.
