Men’s soccer win a 7-0 whitewash over Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Men’s soccer put on an offensive showcase as six different players scored in a 7-0 drubbing of a struggling Coe College team Saturday.

The Storm (11-7, 2-3 IIAC) were able to get a season-high 26 players into the game as they handed Coe their fourth straight loss in Iowa Conference play.

Junior Tyler Neumann scored the team’s first goal of the game only 24 seconds into play off an assist from Marcus Varnum. Neumann would score his second of two goals in the game in the 56th minute, moving his goal total on the season to four.

Mitchell White added the Storm’s second goal of the game in 16th minute, his seventh on the season, a team-high for the Storm.

Flynn Collins, the freshman out of Marmion Academy in Batavia, Ill., scored his first goal for the Storm minutes before the half, giving Simpson a commanding 3-0 lead going into the locker-room.

Kyle Kusy, Collin Hemann and Joe Fairchild would chip in with goals in the second half to round out the Storm’s scoring, giving Simpson their second seven-goal victory on the season.

Simpson was able to enter three of their goalkeepers into the game Saturday after Junior Zach McEntee earned his 11th win of the season after playing 61 minutes on Saturday.

Coe (3-12, 0-4) was only able to generate six shots on the afternoon as Simpson pounded 23 shots on goal. McEntee added three saves to his season total.

With the win, Simpson moves into a tie for fifth place with Central College, three points behind fourth place Luther College, and four behind Dubuque for third.

Simpson will take a week off before heading out to Dubuque to face the 5-6-3 Spartans in their second to last regular season matchup of the season. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
