Women’s soccer edged by Coe 2-1

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Women’s soccer came within 17 minutes of earning their first conference win on Saturday as they lost to Coe 2-1 after a second half Kohawk comeback.

Casey Relsen got the Storm (2-13-1, 0-4-1) out in front 1-0 in the 39th minute as she scored her second goal of the season.

After holding the one goal advantage for 44 minutes, Coe’s Kelsey Fauser scored on the assist from Brenna Winn. Shortly after, the 1-1 tie was broken as Sarah Fathallah scored her seventh goal of the season on a game winner in the 83rd minute.

Simpson was outshot 23-9 on the afternoon, as their struggles to generate offense continued throughout the season.

Goalkeeper Kristin Riley continued a busy season in the box, making 10 saves.

With the loss, Simpson was mathematically eliminated from the six-team IIAC tournament field.

The Storm finish out the remaining three games of their season beginning with William Penn on Wednesday against NAIA foe William Penn. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Bill Buxton Stadium.
