Well-rounded effort pushes men’s basketball to 71-56 win over Northwestern

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Five players scored eight points as Simpson cruised to a 71-56 victory over University of Northwestern – St. Paul, Friday.

Simpson (2-1) shot 50 percent from the field as Charles Swain lead all scorers with 17 points, leading by as much as 20 points.

Sophomore DJ Dafney started his second straight game, clocking 30 minutes of playing time as he added eight points and 10 rebounds.

In his first game back with the team, Minnesota native Leif Olson scored 10 points while gathering five rebounds as Simpson outrebounded Northwestern (0-1) 39-30.

The freshman duo in Sam Amsbaugh and Jamie Montgomery combined for 16 points as the Storm made up for quiet nights from Chad Gutschenritter and Dillon Gretzky, who only tallied three points together.

The Eagles showed some rust on their opening night, shooting only 32 percent from the field, as they were lead by starters Will Gisler and Kyle Ooms who had 10 points apiece.

Men’s basketball will have a quick turnaround as they square off with North Central University tomorrow, their fourth Minnesotan team in as many games.

Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. as Simpson finishes off their weekend at the ACR Homes Tip-Off Tournament.
