Women’s basketball closes Buena Vista classic with 79-58 win over presentation

STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Simpson College women’s basketball team got 40 points from their bench on route to a 21 point drubbing of NAIA, Presentation College, Saturday afternoon.

The Storm started off the game on a 21-4 run, contributing to a 43-25 lead at the half. With the comfortable lead, Niemuth went to his bench, giving playing time to 11 players off the bench.

Presentation College (2-4) played a better second half, only being outscored by three in the second frame, although Simpson’s lead was too much to account for as the Storm ran away with a 79-58 win.

This is the sixth time in which Simpson (6-1) has scored at least 70 points in a game, all of which the Storm have won.

Freshman Rachel Kaale lead Simpson in scoring for the second straight game, and her third time this season, with 14 points.

Both Brittany Hedrick and Ashley Dalsing added 11 points, while Britney Boland scored in double figures as well with 10 points.

Whitney Van Wyk had another well-rounded game, filling up the stat sheet and doing the little things for the Storm. While she only scored five points on the weekend, and none on Saturday, Van Wyk added 11 rebounds, five assists, four steals, and five blocks between Friday and Saturday’s wins.

Morgan Mauro was 0-5 from 3-point range but lead the Storm with 8 rebounds.

Since their 50-47 loss to UW-Lacrosse on Nov. 16, Simpson has won five consecutive games by an average of 23.6 points per game.

Next up for Simpson is another NAIA opponent in Grand View University. The Storm will head up to Des Moines to take on the Vikings at 7 p.m. this Wednesday, Dec. 3.
