INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Storm kicked off their 2014-2015 season going 1-1 as they took on two Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams at home.

Game 1: Gustavus Adolphus 66, Simpson 58

Despite a 15-0 second half run by the Storm, Simpson fell to the Gusties of Gustavus Adolphus 66-58 on opening night.

Isaac Tapp lead the way for the Gusties with 14 points as Gustavus Adolphus (1-0) played a team-oriented game, serving up 16 assists to Simpson’s six.

Despite outshooting the Gusties from the field, Simpson went a dismal 8-18 from the line as Gustavus Adolphus knocked home 18 free throws.

Trailing 40-24 at the break, Simpson (0-1) came storming back in the second half to take a brief one-point lead at 49-48 with 6:42 remaining.

The Gusties reoriented themselves going on an 18-9 run to close out the game as they edged Simpson by 8.

Freshman Sam Amsbaugh played a well-rounded career-opener, leading the Storm in scoring with 12 and on the glass with seven boards.

Guard Chad Gutschenritter was close behind with 11 points in 29 minutes of playing time.

A point of concern for the Storm, senior captain Tyler Anderson had to leave the game in the first half following a shoulder injury. His status is unknown, although he is suspected to miss the rest of the non-conference season.

Game 2: Simpson 66, Augsburg 53

A 14-5 first half run ignited Simpson as they returned the favor after a two-point loss to the Auggies of Augsburg last season, winning 66-53 at Cowles Fieldhouse on Sunday.

Senior Charles Swain put a 2-10 performance on Saturday behind him as he scored 17 points, going 3-6 from three-point land and six of seven from the free throw line.
