DUBUQUE, Iowa – Going into this season, it was head coach Charles Zanders and his squad’s goal to keep teams down offensively.

In games that the Simpson College men’s basketball team held teams to a low shooting percentage, they have won.

That wasn’t the case Saturday against the University of Dubuque, as the Storm fell 96-60.

Jacob Mohlis of Dubuque would hit a 3-pointer 38 seconds into the game, giving the Spartans a 3-0 lead.

That three point deficit was the closest Simpson (6-11, 1-5) would get as Dubuque (14-3, 4-2) would never give up the lead holding a commanding, 48-33 advantage at the half.

Things would get worse as the Spartans went on a 17-7 run to start the half to go ahead by 25, putting the game practically out of reach.

From there, head coach Charles Zanders would bring in some reserves to get his bench some playing time as his starting five combined for only 17 points.

Things were much different for the Spartans who had four of their five starters in double-figures, lead by Andre Norris at 19 points.

Dubuque dominated in the box score, shooting 55.9 percent from the floor, knocking down 21-25 free throws, all the while outrebounding Simpson 39-24.

Ryan Skaar was one of the lone bright spots on offense for Simpson, scoring 15 points on 5-8 from the floor.

Cody Good, who came into the game averaging 6.6 minutes per game, played a game-high 26 minutes to try to shake the Storm lineup up.

Simpson will look to break their four-game losing streak on Wednesday as they host rival, Central College, at 8 p.m.
