Hot-shooting Loras Duhawks knock off Simpson

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Simpson College men’s basketball only lead once, one minute into the game, as Loras College ran away with a 78-66 win in Dubuque on Wednesday.

The Duhawks shot 50 percent in the first half as they stretched out there lead to 37-26 at the break.

Loras (6-8, 1-2) never cooled off, going 15-21 in the second half as they staved off a Simpson (6-8, 1-2) team that scored 40 points in the second half.

Simpson was lead by Charles Swain who led all scorers with 23 points. Ryan Skaar added 11 points as DJ Dafney was held scoreless after hitting the game winning layup on Saturday against Buena Vista.

Freshman Sam Amsbaugh made the most of his 16 points scoring nine points and reeling in six rebounds.

One of the lone bright spots for the Storm came from their reserves, adding 32 points to the mix to Loras’ 20.

The Storm look to bounce back against Wartburg College (9-5, 2-1) on Saturday as they head to Waverly for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
