WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg College Knights outrebounded Simpson College 45-21 as men’s basketball fell to the Knights on Saturday afternoon.

Simpson (6-9, 1-3) hung close to Wartburg trailing only 39-37 with 16:30 in the second half but fizzled out at the end, being outscored 35-18 in the final 16 minutes.

Dillon Gretzky led Simpson in scoring with 18 points. Ryan Skaar was the only other Simpson player in double figures, adding 12 points with four 3-pointers.

Simpson only shot 36.8 percent from the floor and even worse behind the arc at 29.2 percent.

Wartburg (10-5, 3-1) were sizzling, going 25-50 and 11-22 from 3-point land.

Four players put up double-figures for Wartburg, highlighted by a 15 point-15 rebound. Jordan Cannon put up a team-high 20 points for the Knights.

Once again it’s been late runs by Simpson’s opponents in their losses to Coe, Loras and Wartburg all that ended in double-digit defeats.

Men’s basketball looks to pounce on the IIAC cellar-dweller in Luther College (4-11, 0-4) this Wednesday as they host the Norse at 8 p.m.
