Track & Field combines for six event wins at Cornell Hilltop Invite

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – Simpson College men’s and women’s track and field teams combined for six individual first place finishes at the Cornell Hilltop Invitational Saturday.

The men placed second out of five teams, and the women third out of five teams

Men’s Track & Field Top Results:

The men earned three individual and one group first place finishes as they placed second out of five teams.

The final team standings were:

1) The University of Dubuque – 205 points

2) Simpson College

3) Cornell College

4) Grinnell College

5) Mount Mercy University

Brice Sheeder earned the first, first-place for the men on the day, running a 51.95 in the 400-meter dash.

In event 14 of the day, Dylan Kalinay earned a first place finish in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 8.72 as Isaac Frazier was close behind in second, only .07 seconds behind Kalinay.

Frazier did get his own first place finish though, coming in first place in the high jump at 2.03 m.

As a group, the men also scratched out a first place finish in the men’s distance medley relay, running a combined 11.17.09 as Kyle Hovey, Tris Reed, Cody Alexander and Blake Willadsen outran the University of Dubuque by just under three seconds.

Women’s Track & Field Results:

The women put together two first place finishes as they placed third out of five teams.

The final team standings were:

1) The University of Dubuque

2) Mount Mercy University

3) Simpson College

4) Cornell College

5) Grinnell College

Jessica Lamb won the seventh event of the day, winning the 800-meter run in 2:34.67 as Jessica Gronke followed up Lamb in second place, 49 seconds behind Lamb.

Senior Bayley Fleshner was the other first place finisher for the Storm, winning the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 9.44.

Simpson will get their first weekend off in three weekends next weekend before heading to Grinnell for the Darren Young Invitational on Feb. 14.
