Nile Eckermann’s 25 points pushes Central past Simpson men’s basketbal

PELLA, Iowa – Simpson College men’s basketball team never lead Saturday, as Central College lead from wire-wire to come away with a 60-46 win.

Two standout individual performances from the Dutch helped lead the way for Central (11-10, 4-6).

Nile Eckermann went 10-21 from the floor for 25 points as Colby Taylor dominated the glass, compiling a 12-point, 21 rebound showing.

Simpson (6-15, 1-9) would outscore the Dutch 31-12 in points off the bench but Central’s 52-37 rebounding advantage and 28 points in the paint were too much.

Ryan Skaar would score 16 points to lead the Storm, going 3-3 from behind the arc in 22 minutes of play. Unfortunately for the Storm, Simpson’s five starters only combined for 15 total points.

For the Storm this is their eighth straight loss as they sit in last place in the IIAC, three-games behind sixth place Luther for the last slot in the IIAC Tournament.

Next up for Simpson is Dubuque at 8 p.m. on Wednesday back in Indianola.
