Things were sitting pretty as the Simpson men’s soccer team led a formidable Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves squad 1-0 at halftime.

But, less than two minutes into the second half, Will Weber tied the game up for the Prairie Wolves as Nebraska Wesleyan broke out for four second half goals to defeat Simpson 4-2 on Wednesday night in Lincoln, Neb.

Simpson was the squad with four goals in last year’s meeting in Indianola as the Storm trampled Nebraska Wesleyan 4-0 in September of 2014.

Collin Hemann promptly scored just 56 seconds into the game to put the Storm (3-2-1) ahead 1-0.

Netminder Zach McEntee needed to make just one save in the first half as Simpson quieted an explosive Prairie Wolves (6-0) squad through 45 minutes.

The decision was made to bring Austin Schafer in at goalkeeper for Simpson in the second half, although the Nebraska Wesleyan assault was too much for the junior as he permitted four of five shots on goal to go in.

Two suspects did all the damage for the host team. Weber added another goal in the second half, the go-ahead goal in the 61st minute, and Drew Miller scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season later in the second half.

Simpson’s other score came from senior Cody Jacobson in the 71st minute, an unassisted goal that found the upper region of the net as Simpson attempted to stage a comeback.

The 2015 meeting from these two teams will be the last time these two teams face each other as non-conference opponents with the Prairie Wolves joining the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference beginning next fall.

Men’s soccer will attempt to break a three-game winless streak as they go up against Westminster College (Mo.) at Columbia College in Mo. on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 12:30 p.m.
